The building is located in a semi-urbanized environment with a great presence of natural spaces and changing topography. The plot has a difference in elevation of approximately 6 meters between the slope of the Dinamarca Street and the slope of the cemetery wall. Most of the surface of the plot is located at a lower level than the slope of the access street. Therefore, a terraced building with green roof is proposed, it connects with the different levels of the land towards the south side of the plot where the terrain levels are highest. In this way, the building is mainly manifested towards the north and west orientation with a low volume of only two floors.
The building also wants to respect the views of the old town from the Dinamarca Street, so the proposed volume is located near the eastern edge of the plot (near the cemetery wall), leaving space to the west to ensure the beautiful view of Toledo.
The new IML building in Toledo responds to the complexity of the functional program and its activities, with a spatial system that guarantees the exchange between uses that hold very different technical requirements (for example, meeting rooms, administrative offices , laboratories and autopsy rooms).
Thus, the building is planned on four levels. The general Mechanical installation programs are located in the basement, the forensic pathology service in the semi-basement with direct access from the Dinamarca Street, and the programs of the forensic-medical clinic and administrative services are located above ground level and the first floor respectively.
