'Seoul, Towards a Meta City' publication released
December 1, 2014
The “Seoul, Towards a Meta City”exhibition tells in many different ways the stories of the architects of public construction projects which make up the modern city of Seoul, and of the lifestyles of the citizens who live in it. The architects and the Seoulites are the hosts of this show, and so are the visitors who will become a part of Seoul in microcosm. The show will attempt to establish a nexus of communality among many building activities within the city and the people who live in them; and introduce the efforts to transform the town into tomorrow’s meta city. The exhibition is not about simply showing off some construction projects, but is about offering the stage that will showcase many different faces of Seoul, in variety of forms, shapes, and atmospheres, on one huge show floor— in an attempt to deliver the true feelings and characters of the town. As the visitors roam about different stages and spaces of the exhibition floor, they will have a sensation of instantly traveling from one district in Seoul to another. Showing the preview of the exhibition will commence the show, followed by an introduction to some of the public construction projects. Eighteen curators and about 300 professional and child architects participate in this exhibition’s eleven total projects, and the projects range from the master plan for a gigantic apartment complex to a small house— to give the visitors an idea how much thoughts, plans, and efforts go into these construction projects. Also in the exhibition the ideas will be presented by the professionals and the students alike, to preserve and improve the Han River and the Nodeul Island, both the important natural bodies of the city. MAS, short for Madrid Architecture Seoul, will exhibit to introduce some of the public construction projects from Europe, and the City of Seoul Architecture Award structures will be displayed alongside. The “Seoul, Towards a Meta City” exhibition will offer a chance for the architects and the citizens of Seoul to get together and contemplate as to what the structures should be as the means to connect the dwellers, and how these buildings should reflect us and our lives.
